Touching Up A Matte Black Rifle Barrel
Posted on Thursday, July 7th, 2011 at 19:48The other day I put a dink in the barrel of my Remington 700P. Not a biggie but it bothered me none the less. Here’s my simple solution which works out great. I use a Birchwood Casey Super Black Flat touch up pen, soap and water and QTips. First use some mild soap and water on a clean lint free rag or towel to clean the area around the damage to remove any grease or silicone, rinse and allow it to dry. Now use the touch up pen by pushing it against the end of the QTip to get some paint on the end of the QTip. Don’t use the pen applicator directly on the gun as it applies too much paint. Blot the QTip on paper until it has a little bit of paint left on it. Now use the QTip to dab the spot where the damage is and allow to dry. Do this several times until the spot disappears. Using the QTip gives a very close appearance to the original finish. Let it dry over night and wipe it down with a silicone cloth and it looks good as new. — DJ
